From DV Tape to Virtual Production: 20 Years of Chasing the Story

From DV Tape to Virtual Production: 20 Years of Chasing the Story

In 2005, I landed my first professional video gig shooting corporate projects on a Sony DSR-350—a shoulder-mount DV workhorse with a 3-CCD chip and a variable lens that felt like pure magic in my hands.

I still remember how grateful I was to touch real pro gear so early, and how wild it felt to be trusted with large corporate clients before I truly understood how much I still had to learn. That early trust—and the responsibility that came with it—gave me the confidence to keep pushing forward.

Back then we shot to tape, captured in real time, and edited on software that would crash if you even looked at it wrong. But I loved every part of it. Every shot, every frame, every late-night edit felt like discovering the power of visual storytelling for the very first time.

Fast-forward to today. The gear looks completely different, but the lessons haven’t changed:

  • Story comes first. Technology evolves, but connection and emotion always drive the work.
  • Adaptability is everything. From DV tape to Unreal Engine, I’ve learned to evolve right alongside the tools.
  • Collaboration makes the magic. Whether on set or in post, the best work comes from shared vision and trust.

Nearly two decades later, I’m still chasing that same spark—now with deeper experience, broader skills, and an even stronger passion for creating meaningful work.

I’m currently exploring creative and technical roles where I can continue telling stories, solving problems, and helping teams produce work that matters.
