As art director, my contributions are rooted in supporting the film’s story and enhancing its visual language. Eva and Arlo, our main characters, inhabit a mysterious space I’ve conceptualized as the Endless Chamber—a dynamic environment that glows and pulsates, with walls perpetually closing in on them. To reinforce the film’s tone and themes, I designed their costumes, developed a 3D virtual set, and created complementary 3D animations that bring the Infinite Chamber to life and deepen its sense of intrigue and tension.
Creating Between Seconds presented a range of artistic and technical challenges, which required a thoughtful and innovative approach to overcome.
One key challenge was conveying the film’s emotional depth within the constraints of its runtime. To address this, we focused on visual storytelling, using symbolic imagery, color palettes, and carefully crafted compositions to communicate the characters’ journey and emotions.
Another challenge was balancing the surreal and the tangible. The film’s setting had to feel otherworldly yet grounded enough to resonate with audiences. We tackled this by blending practical set elements with a digital virtual set, using Unreal Engine and real-time rendering, creating a seamless integration of the real and the imagined.
Ultimately, every challenge pushed us to innovate and refine, resulting in a film that is both visually striking and emotionally impactful.
Between Seconds achieved its goal of creating a visually stunning and emotionally resonant experience that captivated audiences. The film’s innovative blend of practical effects and digital artistry brought the surreal setting to life, immersing viewers in a world that felt both fantastical and deeply personal.
