Electronic Hangover

3D VIRTUAL WORLD & CHARACTER ANIMATION

OVERVIEW

In large part, this short animated film was an excuse to create visually stiunning content using Blender, Unreal Engine and Mixamo. I had a blast exploring rich virtual spaces, building 3D models, and rigging characters for animations.

“Electronic Hangover” is a short film that merges vivid digital aesthetics with a deeply personal narrative. Drawing on my own experiences of burnout, I used this film to explore the emotional weight of constantly striving for creativity and perfection. The juxtaposition of jubilant robots and a poignant narration illustrates how we often mask exhaustion with external distractions.

The film blends humor and reflection, offering viewers an entertaining yet introspective journey into the world of overworked machines who resemble us more than we’d like to admit.

CHALLENGES & APPROACH

Creating Electronic Hangover came with challenges such as balancing its vibrant visuals with the emotional depth of burnout, integrating tools like Blender, Unreal Engine, and Mixamo, and optimizing complex scenes for rendering. Crafting an authentic and relatable narration that resonated universally added to the creative hurdles.

To address these, I used storyboarding and iterative design to refine visuals and tone, streamlined the pipeline by assigning specific tasks to each tool, and optimized assets to reduce rendering times without sacrificing quality. The narration went through multiple revisions to ensure an emotional connection. This thoughtful approach brought the film’s blend of visual spectacle and personal storytelling to life.

THE VISION

At its core, Electronic Hangover is a reflection of my deep passion for storytelling through visuals. As a filmmaker and motion designer, I’ve always been fascinated by the intersection of technology and humanity. This film allowed me to explore that relationship while addressing a theme that resonates deeply with me—burnout. Every robot, scene, and line of narration reflects my personal journey as a creative professional navigating the pressures of constant output and the struggle to find balance.

I aimed to push boundaries not only in visuals but in emotion. Each tool—Blender, Unreal Engine, and Mixamo—became an extension of my imagination, helping me bring my vision to life in ways that were bold and innovative. The film is more than a technical achievement; it’s a piece of my story, a reminder that even in moments of exhaustion, there’s beauty and meaning to be found in the process. My goal wasn’t just to entertain but to connect, inspire, and leave viewers with something to reflect on long after the screen goes dark.
